Built in 1930, this Neo-Romanian residence preserves the nobility of interwar architecture, becoming a contemporary reinterpretation of the boyar “cule” – fortified manors that once embodied both elegance and dignity rooted in tradition.
The interior design intervention proposes a return to classical refinement, filtered through a contemporary aesthetic. Natural materials such as solid wood, patinated metal, smoked glass, and velvet are complemented by carefully positioned mirrors that visually expand the space and subtly reflect the original architectural details.
The arrangement revives the atmosphere of the Romanian manor, with a palette of dark tones, warm lighting, and artistic accents. In contrast, the basement area introduces a more contemporary note: an intimate wine cellar, a gym, and a cinema room — designed as interactive, inviting spaces. Here, exposed brick blends harmoniously with local finishes, creating a visual dialogue between history and modernity.
Through this transformation, the residence gains a renewed sense of life — a harmonious balance between heritage and comfort, where the boyar spirit of the 1930s merges with the sensibility of contemporary design in a timeless expression of elegance.
The intervention on the main façade terrace was conceived as a subtle extension of the original architectural language. The proposed covering solution features a slim metal structure with a glass roof, harmoniously integrated into the composition of the façade without competing with the 1930 architecture.
The semi-curved perforated metal elements, inspired by the floral motifs of the central staircase’s interior balustrade, reinterpret the original ornament in a contemporary manner. This design continuity transforms the historic decorative detail into a defining element of the new identity.
The same floral pattern was printed into the ceramic flooring, creating a tactile and visual connection between the interior and exterior. The terrace thus becomes a transitional space between history and modernity — a place where light, material, and memory meet in an elegant and discreet balance.
