Born to Be Part of the Whole

Concept • Vernacular architecture symbolizes the identity roots of a people, serving as a profound expression of how a community has adapted, lived, and expressed its values in relation to nature, climate, resources, and beliefs. It is a built form of memory, carrying with it a rich and layered symbolism.

Universal Symbolism of the Spiral •  Evolution and Personal Growth
The spiral symbolizes progress, expansion, the initiatory path, or the evolution of consciousness — from the inner self (the self) toward the outer world (the universe), or vice versa.

Collective •  community (symbol: the circle)
DEX definition – “comunitate, comunități” (feminine noun)
(Biology) The totality of plant organisms occupying a certain geographical area, having reciprocal relationships.

When it comes to those around us, we must function as a single system. No cell can exist on its own. Cells require mutual complementarity in order to support the organism.

For the Kinderspace competition, I chose a site integrated into a small forest, based on the belief that humans are part of a greater whole: nature, animals, the universe, and everything that surrounds us. I believe that one of the greatest challenges of our generation is to reconnect children with the natural environment. Future generations must be educated in a spirit of belonging and integration with nature.

The building takes on a spiral form •  a conceptual choice symbolizing progress, expansion, and evolution. Children enter the space and follow an initiatory path, inspired by the dynamics of learning and discovery. The outer shell, made from local natural materials such as wood and shingle, reinterprets vernacular architecture in a contemporary and sustainable way.

Inside, the spaces are circular, evoking the sense of community and wholeness. The floating floor system ensures flexibility; the cylindrical volumes can be reconfigured and repositioned as needed. These modules are independent and can be placed within other “outer shells,” adapted to different sites or cultures, while maintaining the same educational and architectural essence.

Following this concept, I chose to include only round tables in the project — forms that allow direct eye contact between children, encouraging communication and a sense of togetherness. Integral education is essential for their future, and the built space must reflect this principle.
